Admiral's Court is a large purpose built apartment block situated on Mooragh Promenade, Ramsey, Isle of Man.
Mooragh Promenade was constructed along with further recreational space on the spit of land on the seaward side of the old course of the Sulby river. “Mooragh” in Manx/Norse is best interpreted as “Waste land” or “Barren”.
Mooragh Promenade was a 'new' development by Ramsey Town Commissioners back in the latter years of the 19th Century when Ramsey was a growing Seaside Holiday town and there was a need for increased Hotel Capacity. The Mooragh was and still is linked to the main town by a Swing Bridge over the tidal estuary of the Sulby river which forms part of Ramsey Harbour.
The buildings are to a design by Cornerstone Architects of Ramsey and erection took place during 1991-1994 by the local builders J.G. Kelly Homes Ltd.
The Architects brief was to design a building that merged well with the existing built environment of “Seaside Hotels” by replicating in modern materials the existing Victorian facades of the buildings on either side. Internal works however were to be fully modern with lifts access to all floors, Entry phones and fully compliant Fire precautions. This appears to have been more or less achieved.
There is a large private car park and garage complex to the rear of the building.
The future administration and management of the building was to be by a Private Limited company with the purchaser of each apartment becoming a shareholder in the management company.
The first occupants moved in in 1993 and the day to day administration and management of the building handed over to resident shareholders control in 1996 on completion of the development. This position still applies to the present day.
The building has been regularly re-painted inside and out and is generally in a good state of repair with regular maintenance being promptly carried out.
